At approximately 9:05 a.m., New Castle County Paramedics and Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Newark responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Nottingham Road and Casho Mill Road. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a three-vehicle collision with four individuals involved, three of whom were trapped in their vehicles.
Additional support was requested from Christiana Fire Company due to the multiple patients requiring extrication. Among the trapped victims, an 81-year-old female and a 79-year-old male were found in one vehicle. The female sustained head and internal injuries and was transported to Christiana Hospital in serious condition after receiving treatment from paramedics. The male was treated for similar injuries and transported in stable condition. Both individuals were trapped for approximately 10 minutes before being successfully extricated by fire department personnel.
A 48-year-old female, trapped in a separate vehicle for about five minutes, was treated by basic life support (BLS) personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company for chest injuries. She was transported to Christiana Hospital in stable condition. A fourth individual involved in the incident declined transport.
The City of Newark Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
