DSU Students Shelter In Place After Reports Of Gunfire Saturday Night

Late Saturday night, Delaware State University (DSU) police issued an emergency alert following reports of gunfire in the area of the University Courtyard Apartments. The alert, sent out at 11:08 PM through the university’s community alert system, advised students and staff to avoid the area and shelter in place.

The official statement from the DSU police read:
“Critical: Shots fired in the area of the University Courtyard Apartments. Avoid the area and shelter in place. Stand by for updated information.”

Shortly after the alert, at approximately 11:15 PM, emergency rescue crews were dispatched to the scene. While it remains unclear if anyone was injured by the gunfire, one individual was evaluated for a medical condition at the scene. The person refused transport for further medical treatment.

At 5:41 Sunday morning please use the community alert system to tell students and faculty that the shelter in place order has been lifted. The community was also informed that police were looking for a white Ford fusion with unknown plates in regard to the incident.

No further details about the gunfire or potential suspects have been released at this time. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
