Police: Man Who Threatened To Shoot School Staff Released On OR

Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Michael Jones of Bridgeville, Delaware, following an incident at the Sussex Consortium in Lewes that resulted in a school lockdown. The arrest occurred after Jones was accused of making terroristic threats and causing significant property damage according to authorities.

Officials said on September 13, 2024, at approximately 12:28 p.m., state troopers were dispatched to the school in response to reports of a student destroying a classroom and threatening to shoot staff members.

Due to the escalating situation, the school was placed into lockdown before troopers arrived on the scene. The investigation determined that Michael Jones, a special education student, was responsible for the disruption, causing approximately $1,500 in damage to school property officials said Saturday. He also made verbal threats about shooting the school staff. There were no firearms involved, and no injuries were reported.

Jones was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7. He was charged with felony terroristic threatening for reckless disregard of risk and inconvenience to a school, two counts of terroristic threatening, criminal mischief for causing over $1,000 in damage, and disorderly conduct. Jones was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.
