Teen Airlifted From Newark Charter Soccer Game Friday

On Friday evening, shortly after 8:15 p.m., emergency rescue crews responded to Newark Charter High School in Newark following reports of an unconscious individual on the football field.

Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4, already en route to a separate motorcycle crash, was diverted to assist at Newark Charter after being cleared from the previous incident.

As students watched from the stands, the state police helicopter landed on the field. According to initial reports from the scene, a teen was struck in the back of the head by a soccer ball, which led to the call for medical assistance.

The injured individual was stabilized at the scene and subsequently prepared for transport. Trooper 4 airlifted the teen to AI DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington. The extent of the injuries remains undetermined at this time.
