Two Injured In Thursday Morning House Fire

Firefighters rescue two at an early morning house fire in Wilmington Thursday.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a report of a kitchen fire in the 1800 block of West 4th Street. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire, which had originated on the stovetop, had been extinguished but left smoke throughout the residence.

Two individuals were affected by the incident. A 49-year-old male sustained a burn injury to his leg, while a 16-year-old female experienced minor smoke inhalation. Fire personnel quickly ventilated the house to clear the smoke and verified that the fire had been completely extinguished. The situation was brought under control within five minutes.

The injured man was transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment of his burn, while the teenage girl was taken to Saint Francis Hospital for evaluation due to smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office.
