Today, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Ruth Briggs King proudly announced the endorsement of the Delaware Fraternal Order of Police (DEFOP) at their annual convention.
“I am pleased to have the support of law enforcement professionals from across the first state.” said Briggs King. “These men and women on our front lines understand that we need to put first things first in creating safer communities all across our state.”
Briggs King comes from a first responder family with members serving in law enforcement, fire, and EMS services. She also served on the relevant oversight committees during her tenure as a state representative from Georgetown in Sussex County.
“Ruth is a proven leader here in Delaware; especially as it relates to criminal justice. Ruth has worked to protect our officers and make sure they have the tools and training to do their job. However, Ruth has also spent time rebuilding the relationship between police and their communities. While serving on the Law Enforcement Accountability Committee, Ruth worked hand in hand with law enforcement as well as the NAACP, the Center for Justice and other community groups to produce a mutually agreeable bill for all stakeholders. Ruth has made it clear that once elected, she plans to take this same approach to probation and correction reform here in Delaware. The fact is we need someone like Ruth who can truly bridge the gap and make Delaware a safer and better place to live for all,” said Jamie Leonard, President of Delaware FOP on behalf of the nearly 3000 members of the Order.
“I will fight as Lieutenant Governor to make sure that all Delawareans have the freedom to live without fear of crime in their streets and their neighborhoods,” said Briggs King.
