Milford City Manager Calls It Quits, May 1 Last Day

Mark Whitfield, the Milford City Manager, has announced his intention to retire on May 1, 2025, following the conclusion of his current contract. Whitfield shared the news with Mayor Culotta and members of the City Council during their meeting on Wednesday, October 9, stating that he would not be seeking a contract extension beyond the April 30, 2025, expiration date.

Whitfield’s tenure with the City of Milford began in July 2016 when he was appointed public works director, a position he held until December 2019. In January 2020, he transitioned to interim city manager, and by May 1, 2020, he was officially named city manager.

Before his service in Milford, Whitfield was the public works director for State College, Pennsylvania, for 35 years. Earlier this year, his contributions to local governance were recognized statewide when the Delaware League of Local Governments named him the 2023 State of Delaware City Manager of the Year.

In the coming weeks, Milford’s City Council will discuss the recruitment process for Whitfield’s successor.
