An early morning fire in Hartly is currently under investigation after firefighters responded to a blaze that claimed a life.
The call came at 3:20 Wednesday morning, sending the Hartly Fire Company to a residence in the 1400 block of Crystal Road. Upon arrival, the responding firefighters were met with a working fire that had engulfed both a detached garage and a nearby single-family home. Additional fire companies were quickly called in to assist.
Chief Deputy Brian Schad, of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, said investigators are working to determine the fire’s origin and cause. He went on to say that during the incident a victim was discovered deceased in the garage, The Delaware State Police are assisting with the investigation according to Schad.
As daylight broke, the scene remained active with investigators combing through the charred remains of the structures. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim as the investigation is still in its early stages.
