Young Man Killed In Tragic Accident Thursday

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred near Georgetown yesterday that left one man dead.

Officials said on October 10, 2024, at approximately 2:33 p.m., a Peterbilt 567 roll-off container truck was traveling westbound on Hardscrabble Road approaching Landfill Lane. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on Hardscrabble Road approaching Landfill Lane.

Officials said the preliminary investigation showed that the Peterbilt initiated a left turn for Landfill Lane, into the Sentra’s path of travel. As a result, the Sentra attempted to swerve to the right, however, the front of the Sentra hit the front left side of the Peterbilt.

The driver of the Sentra, a 20-year-old man from Georgetown, was taken to an area hospital where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 30-year-old man from Seaford was not injured.

The Hardscrabble Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
