A house fire in Frederica’s Bowers Landing development kept firefighters busy on Thanksgiving Day.
The call was dispatched at 4:07 Thursday afternoon, reporting a fire in the garage of a one-story home in the 200 block of Sand Dollar Lane. Crews from Bowers Beach, Frederica, Little Creek, and Magnolia Fire Companies, along with Kent County Paramedics, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames pouring from the garage and smoke coming from all sides of the home.
Firefighters initiated an attack on the fire while simultaneously conducting a search of the residence to ensure no one remained inside. Crews confirmed the house was clear of occupants. Firefighters requested the roof be opened to aid in ventilation as they worked to gain access to the garage.
By 4:33 p.m., the fire was declared under control, with crews remaining on scene to address hot spots and perform overhaul operations. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze, with further details to be released as they become available.
