Police Chase Leads To Drug Charges For Greenwood Man

Delaware State Police have arrested 56-year-old Richard Boyd of Greenwood for multiple felony offenses following a pursuit near Lincoln.

Officials said on November 5, 2024, at approximately 7:05 p.m. members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force were on patrol on Calhoun Road near Rust Road in Lincoln, when they saw a silver Dodge Durango on the side of the road with its hazard lights on. Detectives stopped to check on the Durango, but it drove away. Detectives tried to pull the Durango over, but it did not stop.

During the pursuit, detectives saw the driver, later identified as Richard Boyd, throw drugs out of the SUV while driving on area roads according to police. The Durango eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of Shawnee Country Store, located at 6994 Shawnee Road, where Boyd was arrested without incident. During a search of the area where the drugs were thrown and the Durango, detectives found approximately 7.5 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 0.69 grams of heroin, and drug paraphernalia.

Boyd was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony) – 2 counts, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 1 (Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony), Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (Felony) AND Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $20,500 secured bond.
