Pursuit Leads To Arrest Of Wanted Man

The Delaware State Police have arrested 26-year-old Savon Roy of Newark, Delaware, on multiple drug and traffic offenses following a pursuit in Newark on the afternoon of November 13, 2024.

According to police, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a trooper patrolling East Chestnut Hill Road near Marrows Road in Newark observed a gray Ford Fusion displaying a fictitious Delaware temporary tag.

Police allege that a computer inquiry confirmed the registration was falsified. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, police say the driver of the Ford ignored the signal and fled into Brookside Plaza Shopping Center. Authorities said the Ford then drove over a curb, across a grassy area, and onto the sidewalk before entering Marrows Road. Police state the vehicle continued onto Kensington Lane at a high speed before stopping in front of a residence on Korda Drive, where the driver, identified as Savon Roy, fled on foot. Officers apprehended him without further incident.

Following his arrest, police report that Roy was transported to a local hospital by EMS for a medical emergency. A search of Roy uncovered a clear plastic bag containing remnants of an off-white powder, which police say Roy had concealed in his pants and torn open, releasing the powder. Additionally, police stated a search of the Ford revealed multiple bags containing approximately 61.5 grams of marijuana. A computer check showed that Roy was wanted on a warrant issued by the New Castle County Police Department and had multiple outstanding capiases.

After being released from the hospital, Roy was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with obstruction of justice by allegedly concealing, altering, or destroying materials (a felony), disregarding a police officer’s signal (a felony), possession of marijuana in a quantity exceeding personal use limits, resisting arrest, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and additional traffic violations. Police report that Roy was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and subsequently committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $3,005 secured bond.
