On December 8, 2024, New Castle County Police responded to an incident after an individual expressed concern for their loved one’s welfare and safety. Officers located the person’s vehicle near Valley Road, where they discovered the driver had sustained a self-inflicted wound. Officers immediately began performing lifesaving efforts, but tragically, they were unsuccessful. It is important to emphasize that no officers discharged their weapons during this incident.

On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a fatal incident unfolded on Valley Run Drive, near the Pennsylvania state line.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that a man in his 40s died from a fatal gunshot wound while police were present. Authorities have yet to confirm details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting, however, sources tell First State Update that officers did not discharge their weapons.
A white truck located at the scene had run off the road, leaving visible muddy tire tracks. Police have not said whether a police pursuit had occurred prior to the incident. Law enforcement officials have not issued a statement addressing whether officers were involved in a chase.
Sources also tell FSU that counselors were made available to officers who witnessed the incident. New Castle County Police have not confirmed those details.
