Head-On Collision On Old Baltimore Pike Sends Two To Hospital

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, along with New Castle County Paramedics, responded to reports of a head-on collision in the 1200 block of Old Baltimore Pike, west of Route 896 in Newark.

While en route, responders were informed that occupants of the vehicles involved might be trapped. Upon arrival, crews found a woman in her 20s trapped in her vehicle and a 17-year-old male driver who had self-extricated from his vehicle.

Initial reports from the scene suggest that one of the drivers crossed into oncoming traffic, resulting in a serious collision. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and left one driver trapped.

At 4:48 p.m., incident command confirmed that the female driver had been successfully extricated from her vehicle. Both patients were transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The extent of their injuries remains undetermined.

The crash caused significant delays on Old Baltimore Pike as investigators worked to determine the cause of the collision and crews cleared the scene. Evening commuters experienced heavy traffic in the area.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
