The Dover Police Department is investigating a tragic Christmas Eve shooting that led to the death of 14-year-old Juwan Walker of Dover. Authorities reported that Walker was sitting in a parked vehicle on Willis Road, north of North Little Creek Road, when two individuals approached on foot. One suspect fired multiple rounds into the vehicle, striking Walker in the upper body. He was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus in a private vehicle and later flown to Nemours Hospital in New Castle County due to the severity of his injuries. Despite receiving medical care, Walker succumbed to his injuries on December 27, 2024.
On December 28, 2024, the Dover Police Department announced the arrests of a 15-year-old male and a 13-year-old male, both of Dover, in connection with the shooting. According to Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, Public Information Officer, the Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T) executed a search warrant at a residence in the unit block of Stevenson Drive, where the 13-year-old suspect was taken into custody. The 15-year-old was arrested at an apartment in the 400 block of Country Drive.
Both suspects have been charged with murder in the second degree, conspiracy in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, reckless endangering in the first degree, and criminal mischief over $1,000 but under $5,000. Each has been committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center on $181,000 cash bail.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. The names of the suspects are being withheld in compliance with state laws governing the disclosure of juvenile information in violent felony cases said police.
