Reports: Police Activity In Elkton Prompts Brief Lockdowns At Newark Schools

Maryland State Police, along with Cecil County Sheriff Deputies, conducted a police action on Friday morning near 2805 Stonegate Boulevard in Elkton, Maryland.

According to emergency alerts sent to area residents around 8:45 a.m., police were searching for a Black male, approximately 5’11” to 6’ tall, wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans. Residents were urged to avoid the area while officers established a perimeter around the Stonegate Apartments, just over the Maryland-Delaware state line.

As a precaution, Newark Charter School and Aspire Academy, both located near the state border, reportedly enacted brief lockdown. Delaware State Police were dispatched to Aspire Academy on Otts Chapel Road, though it remains unclear if Newark Police made a response to Newark Charter School.

A heavy police presence throughout the Stonegate Apartments complex was observed as Maryland State Police and Cecil County Sheriff Deputies conducted their investigation. By approximately 9:15 a.m., authorities confirmed that the situation was resolved.

Local authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect or the nature of the incident. There is no confirmation of arrests or injuries at this time. Updates will follow as additional information becomes available.
