Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a November fatal stabbing incident.
Officials said on November 1, at approximately 11:24 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of West 4th Street in reference to check of the welfare complaint.
Upon arrival, police located 30-year-old Tyler Ponzo suffering from a laceration to his arm. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. A death investigation was conducted by police in conjunction with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, and it was determined that the victim died as a result of the fatal stabbing incident.
The case was assigned to Detective Derek Haines of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Haines identified 29-year-old Souleymane Fadiga as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest officials said Monday. On November 22, Fadiga was taken into custody without incident in New York.
Court records show that Fadiga waived his right to an extradition hearing. On December 23, Fadiga was extradited to Delaware.
He has been charged with Manslaughter and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $500,000 cash-only bail.
