Victim Seriously Injured In Laurel House Fire Wednesday

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a residential structure fire that was reported o Wednesday afternoon shortly before 1:30 in the 100 block of West 2nd Street in Laurel, Delaware.

Chief Deputy John Galaska said the Laurel Fire Department and assisting mutual aid fire companies arrived on scene and found heavy flames coming from the first floor of a multi – story dwelling. The house was occupied at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to enter the structure and successfully remove a female victim from the second floor. The female occupant was transported to Nanticoke Hospital by ambulance in serious condition.   

Delaware Deputy State Fire Marshal’s responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation. It was determined that the fire originated on the first floor of the structure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home was equipped with smoke detectors. There were no other reported injuries. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
