Woman Struck In Wilton Accident Dies Of Injuries Days Later

On Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 2:13 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Wilton Boulevard and Old Forge Road in New Castle.

Officials said preliminary investigations revealed that a 2005 Buick Park Avenue, operated a 64-year-old New Castle man, was traveling northbound on Wilton Boulevard. As the driver approached the intersection, 91-year-old Evelyn Newman was crossing the roadway. She was struck by the Buick. The driver remained at the scene following the collision.

Emergency responders from Christiana Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics arrived shortly after the incident. Newman was initially described in a press release as a 65-year-old woman but was later identified as 91-year-old Evelyn Newman.

She suffered severe extremity injuries and possible internal injuries and was transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by ambulance, with paramedics providing advanced life support during transit. She was listed in critical condition upon arrival.

Newman succumbed to her injuries two days later, on December 29, 2024.

The New Castle County Division of Police is continuing its investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
