A residential fire on January 7, 2025, in Camden Wyoming has tragically claimed the life of a juvenile victim, according to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. The child succumbed to injuries on January 11, 2025, at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, after battling critical injuries sustained in the blaze.
The fire, reported shortly after 5:45 PM, occurred in the 200 block of Wynsome Boulevard. When the Camden Wyoming Fire Company arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy fire originating from the garage of the occupied residence. Crews quickly learned that a juvenile was unaccounted for and initiated a search inside the burning home.
The juvenile was located and transported by EMS and Kent County Paramedics to Bayhealth Kent Campus. From there, the child was airlifted to Nemours Children’s Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical teams, the child passed away days later.
An adult resident of the home sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Two other juvenile occupants managed to escape the fire uninjured. One firefighter on the scene was treated for minor injuries.
Authorities credit working smoke detectors with alerting the family to the fire, which potentially prevented further tragedy.
The investigation into the cause of the fire remains active. The victim’s remains have been turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for further examination.
