Delaware City Man Sentenced to Life for the Brutal Murder of His Father

The New Castle County Division of Police has closed a chilling case with the sentencing of 38-year-old Allan Henderson Jr., of Delaware City, for the murder of his father, 65-year-old Allan Henderson Sr.

The investigation began on January 24, 2023, when officers were dispatched to the unit block of Verdi Circle in the Christiana Falls community for a welfare check. Upon arrival, police encountered Henderson Jr. at the front door of the residence. As officers attempted to speak with him, he fled the scene. After a brief foot chase, Henderson Jr. was detained. Inside the home, officers made a gruesome discovery. Henderson Sr. was found deceased, suffering from multiple lacerations and significant trauma.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigation found at the scene, including handwritten notes and video recordings made by Henderson Jr., showed a premeditated plan not only to kill his father but to steal weapons and carry out further violence. He was also planning kill an ex-romantic partner along with several others who shared the residence prosecutors said.

Authorities described the crime as particularly brutal, noting that Henderson Sr. had been stabbed dozens of times.

In December, Henderson Jr. was sentenced in New Castle County Superior Court. The life sentence, plus an additional two years for the weapons charge. Prosecutors and law enforcement officials expressed relief at the resolution of the case, emphasizing the importance of protecting the community from such violent individuals.
