Law enforcement agencies have released little data reflecting criminal activity and responses over recent months in the Middletown area. Here’s what we know.

Delaware State Police Incidents

The Delaware State Police reported several crimes in Middletown between early December 2024 and January 2025. Among these were multiple cases of driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault, and a threat of arson. Incidents were reported across various locations, including Main Street, Silver Lake Road, and Summit Bridge Road.

Middletown Police Department Incidents: December 2024

The Middletown Police Department announced on its Facebook page the arrest of Lorenzo Velazquez, 38, of Warwick, MD, in connection with a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries targeting businesses in the downtown area. On December 16, officers responded to burglaries on East and West Main Street, where damage to cash registers and thefts were reported. The following day, officers observed a suspect fleeing the Cricklewood Shopping Center during a patrol. Velazquez was identified and apprehended later that evening at the W. Main Street Wawa, and charged with multiple offenses, including burglary, theft, and possession of burglar tools. He was committed to Howard Young Correctional Facility on a $1,600 secured bond.

Officials did not publicly release any other crime stats, announce any arrest, or report any motor vehicle accidents from 12/02/24 to 1/02/25.

Middletown Police Data: October 2024

The most recent monthly data released in November by the Middletown Police Department covers the October 2024 stats, during which officers responded to 1,132 calls for service. Key incidents included:

  1. Felony DUI: On October 9, a 65-year-old Middletown man was arrested on West Main Street for a fourth DUI offense after showing signs of impairment during a traffic stop. He was committed to Howard Young Correctional Facility.
  2. Felony Theft: On October 7, a victim in the Spring Mill area was scammed out of $11,000 after being contacted by an unknown suspect claiming to represent Capitol One. The investigation into this case is ongoing.
