Police ID Pedestrian Struck And Killed In Newark New Years Day

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early this morning in Newark that left one man dead.

Officials said on January 1, 2025, at approximately 1:14 a.m., a 2013 silver Kia Optima was traveling westbound in the left lane of East Chestnut Hill Road, east of Martindale Drive. For reasons under investigation, a pedestrian wearing dark-colored clothing was walking in the left lane of westbound East Chestnut Hill Road, directly in the Kia’s path of travel police said Wednesday morning. As a result, the Kia struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, 32-year-old Terron King OF New Castle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, a 36-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was not injured. The passengers of the Kia, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
