Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Tuesday

Wilmington Police are on scene investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in the area of 10th and Kirkwood Streets.

Officials said at approximately 1 p.m., members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division were in the area of 10th and Kirkwood Streets conducting a drug investigation. Officers identified a suspect, a 32-year-old male, and attempted to conduct a stop. The suspect fled in his vehicle, at one point driving on the sidewalk, and a police officer discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the suspect once according to police.

Officers immediately began to render aid prior to the arrival of paramedics. The suspect was transported to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Criminal charges are pending further investigation.

Although officials did not release information regarding the suspects injuries initial reports indicate that he was struck in the head.

The police officer was not injured.
