Two teenagers were arrested Monday following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen car in Dover. The incident, which occurred around 3:31 p.m., began after Dover Police received a report of a stolen red Hyundai Elantra at 2:59 p.m.
According to Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, a K-9 Officer and his partner, Jits, observed the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on West Loockerman Street near South State Street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply and fled, committing several traffic violations during the pursuit.
The chase ended in the Capital Green neighborhood near New Castle Avenue when the vehicle came to a stop. The driver, a 16-year-old male from Dover, surrendered immediately, while the passenger, a 15-year-old male from Chestertown, Maryland, attempted to flee on foot. With assistance from K-9 Jits, officers from Dover Police Department’s “B” Platoon apprehended both suspects.
The 16-year-old was processed and released on $2,800 unsecured bail after being arraigned on charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of burglar tools, resisting arrest, disregarding a police officer’s signal, criminal mischief, conspiracy second degree, theft under $1,500, and multiple traffic offenses.
The 15-year-old was arraigned and committed to Stevenson House on $5,500 secured bail. His charges mirrored those of the 16-year-old, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of burglar tools, resisting arrest, disregarding a police officer’s signal, criminal mischief, conspiracy second degree, theft under $1,500, and additional traffic violations.
