Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting Transferred To Gander Hill

Wilmington, DE — Wilmington Police officers were actively investigating an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday in the vicinity of 10th and Kirkwood Streets. The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday when members of the department’s Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were conducting a drug investigation.

According to officials, officers identified a suspect, later named as 32-year-old Calvin Warren, and attempted to conduct a stop. Warren fled in a vehicle, reportedly driving onto the sidewalk during the pursuit. A police officer discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the suspect once.

Initial reports indicate that Warren sustained a gunshot wound to the head, though officials have not confirmed the nature of the injury. Officers provided immediate medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported Warren to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The vehicle Warren was driving was found to have been reported stolen out of Lancaster Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities found 3.2 grams of cocaine in Warren’s possession, and during the incident, he allegedly drove the vehicle onto a sidewalk, struck another vehicle, and posed a threat to two bystanders according to police.

Following the investigation, Warren was charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts
  • Reckless Endangering (First Degree) – Two Counts
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Warren was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and received a $50,305 cash-only bail. He was subsequently remanded to the Delaware Department of Correction and remains in custody.

The police officer involved was not injured but has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy. The incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice.
