DSU Plane Crash Lands North Of Dover Friday Night

Kent County emergency personnel responded to an aircraft crash at Delaware Airpark on Durham Lane north of Dover, at 10:48 Friday evening. Initial reports indicated that the aircraft had gone off the runway, but there was no fire at the scene. Authorities stated that both the pilot and passenger had exited the plane and were seen walking around.

Command on scene indicated that the aircraft ran out of fuel, fell short of the runway, and overturned upon impact. However, no official statement regarding the cause of the crash or the condition of those on board has been released by authorities. It remains unclear whether the occupants exited the plane on their own or were assisted by emergency responders.

Earlier in the day, the aircraft, along with another plane from the Delaware State University Aviation Program, departed from Myrtle Beach Airport in South Carolina, returning to Delaware. A source familiar with the incident tells First State Update that the crew of the second DSU plane drove the pilot and passenger of the crashed aircraft to the hospital as a precaution.

The Aviation Program at DSU offers students a comprehensive education and practical training, equipping them for successful careers in the aviation industry. The program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with specialized concentrations in Aviation Management, Professional Pilot, or Professional Helicopter Pilot according to the school’s website.

Photos showing the overturned plane have been shared by the Cheswold Fire Company and can be viewed on their official Facebook page here.
