DOVER, DE – Fire crews responded to a residential fire on Westover Drive in the Village of Westover on Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews confirmed a working alarm in a two-story, middle-of-the-row townhouse with smoke visible from the garage.
The call came in at 1:47 p.m., with initial reports indicating there was a fire in the basement laundry room. The Dover Fire Department, Camden-Wyoming, and Little Creek Fire Company were among the first on the scene, establishing a water supply and conducting a 360-degree assessment. Firefighters located a hydrant at Fairness and Westover Drive and charged the line. A rapid interior attack was initiated, with crews advancing handlines to contain the fire.
Command reported that the blaze was confined to the fire building, with no immediate spread to adjacent townhomes. Primary searches of all three floors were negative, and a secondary search confirmed that no occupants were inside. Smoke conditions persisted from the Charlie side as crews continued overhaul operations to expose potential hidden fire pockets.
By 1:58 p.m., power to the residence was secured, and division leaders on the scene reported no significant fire extension beyond the initial area, with ongoing checks in the basement, garage, and upper floors. No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.
A light smoke condition was present in an adjacent home, however, initial reports indicated that the fire was contained to the basement in the original home.
The incident was placed under control, with ventilation and overhaul efforts continuing. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
