Motor Vehicle Collision in Townsend Leaves Two Injured, One in Critical Condition

TOWNSEND, Del. — A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of DuPont Parkway and Harris Road on Tuesday evening resulted in two people being hospitalized, one in critical condition. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 5:05 p.m. following reports of an entrapment.

According to Lieutenant Abigail Haas, Public Information Officer for New Castle County EMS, units arrived to find three individuals involved in the crash. One male declined treatment or transport, while two elderly female passengers sustained significant injuries.

A 77-year-old woman was trapped in her vehicle for approximately 15 minutes before being extricated by fire department crews. She suffered critical abdominal, chest, and possible internal injuries. After receiving treatment from New Castle County Paramedics, she was airlifted to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police Aviation.

An 81-year-old woman also sustained serious injuries, including extremity and back injuries, as well as possible internal trauma. She was transported to Christiana Hospital via a Volunteer Hose Company ambulance with paramedics providing care en route.

Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into the crash. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including New Castle County Paramedics, Townsend Fire Company, Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, Odessa Fire Company, Port Penn Fire Company, and Delaware State Police Aviation.
