Rollover Crash Shuts Down Route 1 Southbound In Smyrna

Smyrna, Del. — Emergency crews have responded to a serious rollover crash involving a dump truck on Route 1 southbound in Smyrna. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle overturned, trapping at least one occupant inside.

Rescue teams on scene have requested additional resources, including an extra rescue squad and medics, to assist in freeing those trapped. Due to the severity of the incident, Route 1 southbound has been closed to allow crews the space needed to perform the rescue operations safely.

Delaware State Police Trooper 4 is expected to land on the southbound lanes to facilitate medical transport. Authorities have advised that this will be an extended closure as emergency personnel work to extricate the occupant and clear the scene. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays in the area.

Further details will be provided as they become available.
