Suspect Arrested In 2023 Mother’s Day Homicide

Delaware State Police have announced the arrest of 20-year-old Daveon Showell of Bridgeville, Delaware, in connection with a homicide that occurred on May 14, 2023, Mother’s Day. Showell is currently in custody in Virginia, awaiting extradition to Delaware to face charges.

Officials said the investigation began when troopers were called to the 21000 block of Mill Park Drive at around 7:01 p.m. regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, they found 23-year-old Orbby Holder lying in the front yard of a residence with gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by troopers and EMS personnel, Holder was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Detectives determined that Holder had been attending a party on Mill Park Drive when an argument broke out between him and an unknown man. The confrontation escalated, and the suspect shot Holder before fleeing the scene according to police.

During the investigation, Showell was identified as the suspect and was indicted on January 27, 2025, by a Sussex County Grand Jury police said. He was taken into custody on February 3, 2025, in Accomack, Virginia. Once extradited to Delaware, Showell will face charges including murder and firearm offenses.
