WILMINGTON, Del. — Delaware State Police have charged two suspects in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Wilmington. Authorities initially said that the victim had died, however, the victim, a 19-year-old Wilmington man, remains in critical condition.
The incident took place on February 19, 2025, at approximately 4:29 p.m. when troopers responded to East Lea Boulevard near North Market Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid before EMS transported him to an area hospital.
Officials said the preliminary investigation determined that the victim was walking to a residence on East Lea Boulevard when he was shot by an unidentified assailant. Surveillance footage and witness accounts led detectives to believe the shooter had been dropped off moments earlier by a Hyundai Santa Fe in the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts at 4200 North Market Street. After the attack, the suspect fled on foot toward the rear of the store, where the Hyundai picked him up before leaving the scene police said.
On February 20, 2025, Wilmington Police conducted a traffic stop on the Hyundai in question. Inside the vehicle were 18-year-old Darmond Green of Wilmington and 20-year-old Taa Box of Townsend, who were taken into custody and later turned over to the Delaware State Police.
Detectives said they identified Green as the gunman and Box as an accomplice who assisted in disposing of evidence after the shooting.
Both suspects were transported to Troop 2 and charged. Green faces multiple felony charges, including Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $1,085,000 cash bond.
Box was charged with felony offenses, including Tampering with Physical Evidence, Hindering Prosecution, and Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement. He was arraigned and released on an unsecured bond.
