CLAYMONT, Del. — Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire on Denham Avenue in the Knollwood development Wednesday morning. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 9:10 a.m. after reports of a fire inside a two-story, middle-of-the-row home.
Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy fire showing from both floors of the home. Responders quickly began suppression efforts while also conducting a search for any occupants still inside the structure.
One victim had already been pulled from the burning home by a bystander before firefighters arrived. A second victim was still inside the residence and a rescue operation was initiated by fire personnel.
Firefighters made contact with the second victim and were able to remove them from the home. Both victims were treated at the scene before being rushed to an area hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.
The fire was eventually brought under control with crews remaining on scene mopping up hots and overhaul operations. The Delaware State Fire Marshals office is investigating to assess the origin and circumstances surrounding the fire.
