On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at approximately 1:58 p.m., Auto Theft Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police spotted a stolen Lincoln Zephyr on Maryland Avenue in Wilmington. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning from Holloway Terrace in New Castle police said Thursday.
Detectives initially followed the vehicle but briefly lost sight of it near Alban Park before relocating it near Newport. When they and responding officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply and fled on Maryland Avenue, leading officers into the City of Wilmington. The pursuit continued to Anchorage Street, near Seventh Avenue, where the occupants abandoned the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
With assistance from the Delaware State Police, Wilmington Police Department, Elsmere Police Department, and Newport Police Department, officers quickly apprehended two suspects—a 17-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both from Wilmington.
The suspects were then transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where they were both charged with One felony count of receiving stolen property, One felony count of conspiracy second-degree, and One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
The 17-year-old male was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $2,500 secured bail. The 14-year-old male was also arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $2,500 unsecured bail.
