Woman Arrested In Connection With Fatal Overdose

WILMINGTON, Del. – A 66-year-old Wilmington woman has been arrested following an investigation into a suspected heroin/fentanyl-related overdose death, authorities announced Thursday.

On Friday, February 14, 2025, officers with the New Castle County Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) responded to the unit block of Champlain Avenue in Wilmington, where they investigated the overdose-related death of a victim. Through their inquiry, officers determined that the deceased had purchased heroin/fentanyl from Barbara Dennis, officials said.

Following their findings, officers executed a search warrant at Dennis’ residence. During the search, authorities recovered 5,468 bags of heroin/fentanyl, weighing approximately 164.04 grams. Additionally, investigators located a digital scale, 40 alprazolam pills, and 200 oxycodone pills according to police.

Dennis was taken into custody and transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters, where she was charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • One felony count of Manufacture/Deliver/Possession with Intent to Deliver (PWID) a Controlled Substance Tier 2
  • One felony count of Manufacture/Deliver/PWID a Controlled Substance Tier 3
  • Two felony counts of Manufacture/Deliver/PWID a Controlled Substance
  • One misdemeanor count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • One misdemeanor count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Following her arraignment before Justice of the Peace Court 11, Dennis was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $682,000 cash bail.
