Delaware State Police Investigate Three Separate Weekend Shootings

Delaware State Police are investigating three separate shooting incidents that took place over the weekend in Bear, New Castle, and Lincoln.

The first incident occurred on Sunday morning, March 2, 2025, at approximately 10:51 a.m., in the parking lot of the Sunset Station shopping center, located at 1835 Pulaski Highway in Bear. According to preliminary investigations, a victim driving a Chevrolet Equinox encountered three unknown males walking in the roadway. An argument ensued between the individuals, during which the victim briefly stepped out of his vehicle. As he re-entered his vehicle, one of the unknown males pulled out a handgun and fired an undisclosed number of shots at the Equinox. The vehicle was struck by gunfire, but the victim was unharmed. The suspects fled on foot toward a nearby neighborhood, and despite a search, troopers were unable to locate them.

A second shooting, believed to be road rage-related, took place earlier that same morning at approximately 9:41 a.m. Troopers responded to North Dupont Highway in the area of Fairview Avenue, New Castle, following reports of shots fired. Investigations showed that a BMW SUV was involved in a road rage altercation with an unknown sedan. During the confrontation, the front-seat passenger of the sedan discharged a firearm at the BMW. Neither the vehicle nor its driver, a 35-year-old Delaware man, was struck. The suspect vehicle fled southbound on North Dupont Highway.

The suspect is described as a masked Black male wearing dark-colored clothing. Authorities have not released any further information about the suspect or the vehicle at this time.

The weekend’s string of shootings began on Friday night, February 28, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., when troopers responded to a shots-fired report in the 9000 block of Bunting Avenue in Lincoln. Investigators determined that an unknown suspect, driving a light-colored vehicle, fired an unknown number of shots. Two vehicles were struck by gunfire, one of which was occupied by two individuals.
