Police Update Human Remains Search In Newark

 On Sunday, March 2, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., patrol officers with the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Cordele Road in Red Mill Farms for a possible human bone found in the resident’s rear yard. Officers believed it to be that of a human, and Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Since Sunday evening, Detectives have been searching the area to locate any additional remains. Anthropologists have been working with the Medical Examiner’s office to identify the remains.

The New Castle County Public Works Department has responded to assist with cutting back the terrain and utilizing sewer cameras to continue the search. The investigation remains ongoing, and the identification of the individual has not been confirmed. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Over the past few days, First State Update has received numerous questions regarding police activity in the area of Capitol Trail and Red Mill Road. While we were aware of the reason for the police presence, we chose not to interfere with the investigation by releasing details prematurely.

On Tuesday, New Castle County Police issued a statement confirming that detectives are investigating a report of possible human remains being located in the Red Mill Farms area. As part of the investigation, a terrain search is underway along Capitol Trail, between Fairway Road and Polly Drummond Hill Road. Authorities have warned that the right lane will be closed intermittently, leading to potential traffic delays.

Police have assured the public that, while there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area, there is no active threat to the community. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
