Police Update Sunday’s Newark-Area Homicide

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in Newark’s Kimberton community, leaving a 19-year-old man dead.

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 3:06 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the unit block of Clarion Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two residences in the area had been struck by gunfire.

While searching the scene for evidence, officers were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at Christiana Hospital by private vehicle. The victim, later identified as 19-year-old Jahliel Jackson, had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite medical personnel’s life-saving efforts, Jackson was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the Division’s Major Crimes Unit and the Evidence Detection Unit responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation. Authorities have not released any suspect information or possible motives at this time.
