Delaware State Police Seek Suspect in Smyrna Home Invasion

SMYRNA, Del. — Delaware State Police are actively searching for 33-year-old Steven Mauthe of Smyrna in connection with a home invasion and assault that occurred Tuesday night in northern Kent County.

Officials said on April 15, 2025, at approximately 8:39 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Ivy Ridge Court following reports of a home invasion involving an assault on a 76-year-old man. The initial investigation determined that Mauthe entered the home, which was occupied by the victim and the homeowner, both of whom are known to him. An argument ensued, during which Mauthe allegedly punched the elderly man in the face multiple times before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, Mauthe returned to the residence and physically assaulted the victim again before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to an area hospital by emergency medical services for treatment of his injuries. The homeowner was not injured during the incident.

Troopers conducted a search of the surrounding area, but were unable to locate Mauthe. Authorities are now requesting assistance from the public in locating him. He is currently wanted on multiple felony charges related to the assault and home invasion.

Mauthe was arrested in October 2024, in connection with a burglary at WDI Wright Designs in Townsend. The investigation into that incident showed that Mauthe accessed the property using a utility task vehicle, attempted to enter several structures, and ultimately stole scrap copper from a shed before fleeing the scene. He was taken into custody on October 17, 2024, near his residence and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $9,000 secured bond.

Court records indicate that Mauthe was released on supervised custody on April 1, 2025. Authorities are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Delaware State Police.
