Fire Sweeps Through North Star Home Sunday

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing its investigation into a fire that caused extensive damage to a large home in the North Star community north of Newark on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched to the unit block of Lakewood Circle, where they encountered heavy fire showing from a two-story brick residence. Due to the rapid spread of the flames, a second alarm was struck shortly after arrival. Reports indicated that fire was visible from multiple sides of the structure, including the roof. Fire crews aggressively attacked the blaze with several lines in operation.

Just before 5:00, command requested a third alarm and replacement cover units as the blaze continued. Additional units from both New Castle and Chester counties responded to assist in controlling the fire. Communication difficulties were noted during the operation, prompting personnel to switch to an alternate radio channel.

Despite the extensive damage, crews were able to bring the situation under control by 5:45. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident, both were evaluated on-scene by medical personnel. Both refused transport according to initial reports.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
