A team from Holy Cross School in Dover won first place overall in the 2025 Junior Solar Sprint at Delaware State University, earning the highest combined score in design, portfolio, and race categories. A second Holy Cross team placed second, with H.B. DuPont School taking third.
In the double elimination races, Holy Cross Team 7 (Bryce Lewis, Makenzie Ford, Adaya Moore, Nicholas Klaus) placed first, followed by H.B. DuPont Team 5 (Jeffrey Van Horn, Alexander Martin, Jialong Liu, Arjun Nathan Senthil) in second, and Holy Cross Team 6 (Kaley Williams, Gianna Keen, Natalia Gonzalvo) in third.
In the design competition, Holy Cross Team 7 took first, Las Americas ASPIRA Team 9 (Jonny Flores, Kaden Deshong) placed second, and Leisure Academy Team 10 (Rhys Scott, Nympha Gatimu, Portia Jalloh, Zaniah Nickens-Brabham) came in third.
Portfolio competition winners included Leisure Elementary Team 11 (Nora’a Bell, Aniyah Jackson, Jordan Ryder, Sakari Watson, Jaiden Watson) in first, Leisure Elementary Team 10 in second, and Frederick Thomas Middle Team 4 (Kalieah Boyer, Jaelynn Martin, William Petrone, Samuel Schubert) in third.
Eleven teams from seven Delaware schools participated in the event, which is hosted annually by DNREC and the Delaware TSA to promote STEM education.
