Suspect Charged in Fatal Collision on Maryland Avenue

Wilmington Police have charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday morning in the area of Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street.

Investigators identified the driver as Elijah Davis. He was located in Bear and taken into custody without incident police said Tuesday. Authorities allege that Davis was operating the vehicle involved in the early morning crash that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old pedestrian.

The victim was struck by a vehicle at approximately 5:07 a.m. and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Davis faces multiple charges including Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death, Failure to Stop at a Red Light, Driving a Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed, and Driving in a No Passing Zone. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Davis was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,000 cash-only bail.

The Wilmington Police Department’s Special Operations Division/Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
