Just In: House Fire Traps One Saturday Morning

Just before noon on Saturday, firefighters responded to a structure fire with reported entrapment in the 300 block of Matthes Avenue in the Richardson Park.

At approximately 11:48 a.m., first arriving units observed smoke showing from the residence and found a man hanging out of a second-floor front bedroom window. Firefighters quickly initiated a rescue operation and successfully removed the individual from the building. The victim, a male in his 50s, was transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire was brought under control within approximately ten minutes after arrival. At 12:04 p.m., the incident was officially placed under control by command. Crews remain on scene.

No additional injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
