Woman Airlifted After Vehicle Splits Utility Pole in Half

Emergency crews responded late Thursday morning to a serious motor vehicle crash in the 2900 block of South Dupont Boulevard in Smyrna.

At approximately 11:53 a.m., units from the Smyrna Fire Department, Smyrna EMS, Kent County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 were dispatched to the scene for a reported crash involving a single vehicle into a utility pole.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a woman trapped inside the vehicle, which had struck a utility pole with enough force to split it in half. Emergency crews worked for approximately 15 minutes to extricate the woman from the wreckage.

Once freed, the patient was airlifted by Trooper 4 to Christiana Hospital. Her condition has not been released at this time.
