Major Accident Closes Route 13 In Cheswold

Cheswold, DE – Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer shortly after 12:16 p.m. on Thursday in the area of Messina Hill Road and Route 13 in Cheswold.

Initial reports confirmed heavy entrapment and a fuel leak from the tractor-trailer. The Cheswold Fire Company, along with Leipsic Fire Company, Dover Fire Department, Dover EMS, and Kent County paramedics, were dispatched to the scene. At least two medical helicopters were dispatched, with reports indicating that a third may have been requested.

Extrication operations were started upon arrival and at least one patient was extricated. We’re working on additional details.

Significant traffic delays and detours were expected in both directions of Route 13 as crews worked to manage the scene.
