CAROLINE COUNTY, MD — The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two young children who were found unresponsive at a property on the 12000 block of Greensboro Road in Greensboro, Maryland, Sunday.
Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. following a report of a possible drowning. Upon arrival, they found two pediatric victims, a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy, who were already receiving emergency medical treatment from the Caroline County Department of Emergency Services and members of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Department.
Both children were transported to Shore Regional Health in Easton for further treatment. Despite extensive life-saving efforts, authorities confirmed that both children died as a result of their injuries.
Radio transmissions reviewed by First State Update indicate that dispatchers were giving CPR instructions to a caller before emergency crews arrived. The scene was described as chaotic, and arriving responders had to break through a locked gate to access the property, which is reportedly set back from the main road. Rescue crews also requested police assistance at the scene. Initial reports from the incident suggested that the children may have been submerged for approximately 20 minutes.
Realtor photographs of the property show a backyard swimming pool, but officials have not confirmed whether the pool was involved in the incident.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. No information has been released regarding the specific circumstances surrounding the incident, and officials have not confirmed where the children were located on the property.
