Police: Man Wanted For Wielding A Chainsaw During Argument Arrested

Delaware State Police have charged a Bridgeville man with multiple felony offenses following an altercation involving a state transportation worker earlier this month.

Authorities said that on August 5, 2025, at approximately 9:33 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Handy Road near Craft Road in Bridgeville for a reported assault. Investigators determined that 30-year-old John Gleysteen arrived at the location operating a tractor and struck a Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) tractor that was mowing grass. An argument ensued between Gleysteen and the DelDOT employee before Gleysteen left the area.

Police said Gleysteen returned a short time later, retrieved a running chainsaw from his truck, and placed it near the tire of the DelDOT tractor. He then entered the cab of the tractor without permission, assaulted the victim, damaged property inside, and fled the scene police said. The victim was not injured during the incident.

On August 10, 2025, troopers located and arrested Gleysteen. He was taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Aggravated Menacing, Harassment, Offensive Touching, and two counts of Criminal Mischief under $1,000 damage property.

Gleysteen was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $67,300 cash bond.
