Driver Killed In I-95 Accident Monday

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on Monday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Newark.

Officials said on September 29, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an unloaded Freightliner dump truck was traveling southbound on I-95 in the center-left lane, approaching the Churchmans Road overpass. For reasons still under investigation, the driver abruptly braked and swerved to the left, causing the truck to crash into the center concrete median.

The driver, a 46-year-old man from Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The three left lanes of Interstate 95 southbound were closed for approximately three hours while members of the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the roadway.
