DOVER, Del. — The Dover Police Department has arrested a Maryland woman in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Sunday morning on North DuPont Highway.
Authorities said that Aaliyah Graves, 24, of Chestertown, Maryland, surrendered herself to police on September 1, 2025. Following her arrest, Graves was processed and arraigned at Dover Police Department before being committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $14,650 cash bail.
Graves faces multiple charges, including Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Tampering With Physical Evidence, Operation of a Vehicle Causing the Death of Another Person, Driving Without a Valid License, and Driving a Vehicle at an Unreasonable or Imprudent Speed.
The charges stem from a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of 62-year-old Barbara Benson of Dover. Police were dispatched at 2:48 a.m. on Sunday, September 1, to the 200 block of North DuPont Highway, where they discovered Benson critically injured. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Benson had been struck at approximately 2:20 a.m. by a black 2001 Toyota Avalon traveling southbound in the right lane. The driver did not stop and continued down the highway officials said. Through investigative efforts, police identified Graves as the driver, and the involved vehicle was later recovered in Worton, Maryland according to police.
Authorities had issued warrants for Graves prior to her arrest and were working with regional law enforcement agencies to locate her prior to her arrest.
