Magnolia Man Facing Manslaughter In Fatal Shooting Tuesday

The Delaware State Police have arrested 23-year-old Chase Washington, of Magnolia, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in Magnolia.

Officials said on September 30, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., troopers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Millchop Lane in Magnolia, after receiving a report of a shooting. When troopers arrived, they discovered a 20-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld until her family is notified.

Due to the nature of the incident, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed that Washington, an acquaintance of the victim, was in the residence with her while he was handling a loaded handgun in a reckless manner, police said Wednesday. As a result, the handgun discharged, striking the victim.

Washington was taken into custody and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with Manslaughter Recklessly Cause the Death of Another Person (Felony) and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony).

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $100,000 cash bond.
